Candidates for Non-Surgical Facelift

Non-surgical facelifts are a good option for patients who want to reduce sagging or rejuvenate their facial appearance without going under the knife. Additionally, a non-surgical facelift is a great option for those who don’t want to go through downtime or experience the risks associated with surgery.

You are a good candidate for non-surgical facelifts if you have the following symptoms:

  • Mild to moderate skin sagging, especially around the jawline, eyebrows, and cheeks
  • Early signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles
  • Volume loss and contouring issues

Ideal patients seek gradual, subtle improvements rather than dramatic changes. They are in good health and understand what the procedure can achieve. Most are in their 30s to 60s, though older patients with good skin quality may also qualify.

You may not be a good candidate if you have severe sagging or significant amounts of excess skin (e.g., after weight loss). Surgical approaches may be a better solution for these concerns. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also wait until later to have this procedure.

Consider getting a consultation with our providers to determine whether you’re a good candidate.

How a Non-Surgical Facelift Works

There are two types of non-surgical facelifts offered at Dermacare:

1. Liquid Facelift

This procedure involves a combination of injectable treatments to smooth away signs of aging and restore youthful volume to the facial profile. Dr. Birchall uses two different types of formulations to produce the best possible results for every patient:
  • Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators like BOTOX® and Dysport® are effective anti-wrinkle treatments. These formulations relax facial muscles that lead to the formation of facial lines, which produces a smoother, more youthful appearance to the skin. Neuromodulators are frequently used to treat horizontal lines on the forehead, vertical creases between the eyebrows, and fine lines in the outer corners of the eyes (crow’s feet).
  • Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM®,Restylane®, andBellafill® are other types of injectable procedures that can be used to reverse signs of aging. However, these formulations work differently from neuromodulators. These solutions are injected into the lower dermal layers, where they can provide additional support to the skin structure and smooth away wrinkles from the inside out. Dermal fillers can restore youthful volume to areas like the temples, cheeks, lips, and along the jawline. They can also be used underneath the eyes to fill in the tear trough area and reduce the appearance of bags and dark circles.

2. Laser Facial Rejuvenation

When patients want additional improvement beyond injectable treatments, we offer a variety of laser skin rejuvenation procedures that we can add to the mix. These offer collagen and elastin stimulation while restoring smoothness to the skin, fine lines, shallow scarring, and pigmentation irregularities.

Some of the most popular skin rejuvenation treatments used for our non-surgical facelift include:
  • SmartSkin® CO2
This ablative laser treatment is fully customizable to the specific concerns of each patient, removing just enough dermal layers to produce optimal results. Aside from fine lines and wrinkles, SmartSkin® CO2 addresses mild to moderate skin laxity for a firmer, more youthful facial contour. Because the procedure also stimulates collagen production, the results will be both natural and long-lasting.
  • Fraxel® II
This is a fractional laser treatment that works by creating micro-injuries in the skin that simulate the body’s healing process. The micro-injuries are created in a grid-like pattern, allowing surrounding skin and tissue to be untouched.

Fraxel® II is a good option for addressing uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, wrinkles, and shallow scarring. This revolutionary treatment uses rapid pulse technology to treat signs of aging and other skin imperfections. The faster speed of the laser allows for deeper penetration into the underlying dermal layers without collateral damage.

Recovery from Non-Surgical Facelifts

Most non-surgical facelifts can be performed in about one hour and do not require significant downtime afterward. Because of this, most patients can return to their routine within an hour or two after the procedure, although it depends on the treatment.

Both injectable treatments and laser procedures used in non-surgical facelifts may bring mild swelling and redness. These side effects can last for a few days, depending on the intensity setting of the treatment.

Bruising is common in the injection area with BOTOX® Cosmetic and fillers but is less common with laser rejuvenation. Procedures such as SmartSkin® CO2 may also bring mild peeling over the next few days.

You should avoid direct exposure to sunlight over the next few days, as the skin is still sensitive. Wear sunblock, as it protects the skin while helping you maintain long-term results. Additionally, use a gentle moisturizer to help the skin heal and prevent dryness from the laser. Your skin should recover within a week.

Non-Surgical Facelift Results

Non-surgical facelift results depend on the type of treatment you use. Liquid facelifts offer the fastest results, with dermal fillers and neuromodulators reaching full effect within a week. The results can last for four to six months, although some dermal fillers can last longer. For example, injections in the cheek use thicker formulations that can last up to 18 months.

Unlike injectables, laser rejuvenation treatments offer gradual effects. These stimulate the body’s production of collagen, which can take at least one month to mature. Most clients enjoy the full results within two to three months after the procedure and can last up to two years or more.

The results are not permanent, but regular maintenance helps prolong them. Fillers should be reinjected every few months based on the type used, and laser procedures such as Fraxel® II, PicoSure®, and SmartSkin® should be scheduled yearly.

Good skincare, such as moisturizing and wearing sunblock, protects the new collagen while plumping the skin.

1. Can I Combine Different Types of Non-Surgical Facelifts in One Session?

Yes, it is possible to get a non-surgical facelift that combines both laser and injectables in one session. Laser treatments can be done first, followed by the injectables. Keep in mind that this can make the skin slightly more sensitive.

Non-surgical facelifts are usually well-tolerated and rarely require anesthesia. A numbing treatment may be used for laser treatments, but some patients choose to go without. However, if you have a low tolerance to pain, talk with Dr. Birchall about numbing options.

You can get a non-surgical facelift that treats the entire face and neck. However, those who want targeted approaches can choose them for the undereye area, brows, cheeks, and jawline. This helps restore contour in your face.

You should avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medication before the procedure to minimize your chances of bruising. If possible, arrive with a clean, makeup-free face.
