Wrinkles and fine lines are a natural part of getting older, but sun exposure can make them worse over time. On top of that, things like acne can leave your skin looking uneven. Your skin has collagen and elastin to keep it smooth and firm, but as you age, your body makes less of them. To keep your skin looking healthy and fresh, it’s important to give your collagen and elastin production a little boost. That’s where Fraxel® II Re:Store comes in. This treatment uses a gentle laser to help stimulate new collagen and elastin production, giving your skin a rejuvenated look. At Dermacare Medical Aesthetics, we offer the Fraxel® II Re:Store treatment to help improve your skin’s appearance and health.
Candidates for Fraxel® II Re:Store are individuals who have noticeable signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation issues like sunspots or age spots. It’s also a great option for those dealing with more advanced skin concerns, regardless of age, who want to boost collagen production and improve skin texture. Whether you’re addressing the effects of aging or other skin imperfections, Fraxel® II Re:Store can help rejuvenate your complexion.
Think of your skin as a family portrait or digital photograph in need of high-quality restoration or a touch-up. You might be considered a good candidate if you want to:
The treatment is mostly recommended for those looking for significant improvement in their skin quality without going through downtime. The skin barrier is restored delicately as the microscopic laser beams work in the deeper layers of your skin.
Fraxel® laser treatment produces thousands of tiny, deep columns of treatment in your skin, known as microscopic treatment zones. In these zones, unwanted pigment is removed, skin retraction occurs, and collagen production is stimulated to restore a healthy glow and feel to the skin.
Just as important, though, are the areas of skin that the Fraxel® laser leaves untouched. For every microscopic zone the laser targets and treats intensively, it leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. This “fractional” treatment approach allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once. And due to the body’s natural healing process new, healthy, and tighter tissue is created to correct skin imperfections.
You will experience a mild sunburn sensation for about an hour after your treatment and then minimal discomfort. The skin will have a pinkish tone for five to seven days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing. Swelling is minimal and generally resolves in two to three days. Additionally, your skin will have a bronze appearance that lasts anywhere from three to 14 days, depending on your treatment level.
After an average of three days, your skin will naturally and vigorously exfoliate as new skin replaces dead tissue. Flaking will occur, though this is similar to that of minor sunburn but without the associated pain. The use of a moisturizer can mask the appearance of flaking.
You may apply make-up or shave soon after treatment. Some patients can return to routine activities, including work and social obligations, the day after treatment. Other patients require a little more time, depending on their skin condition and treatment. Please consult your provider to understand how Fraxel® II Laser Treatment will fit into your schedule.
Be sure to use sunscreen at least twice daily to protect your skin from sun exposure during both the healing phase and for several months after treatment. It is important to choose a moisturizing sunblock with an SPF of at least 30. For added protection, use wide-brimmed hats when in direct sunlight.
Fraxel® II Re:store offers progressive improvement of your skin quality, with most patients seeing the first results within a week. Once the skin starts flaking, you should notice that it is brighter and that you no longer have as many pigmentation issues. The size of your pores should also be smaller, which indirectly helps acne concerns.
Over the following weeks and months, the body repairs the deeper dermal tissues that have been affected by the Fraxel® treatment. This produces longer-lasting changes associated with a healthy, youthful appearance. Your wrinkles should be less visible after four weeks with continued improvement over the next three to six months.
The overall results can last up to one year, as your collagen production reaches standard production levels. Depending on your skin quality, you should schedule maintenance treatments every six to 12 months and follow a thorough skincare routine.

The duration of the treatment depends on the specific treatment area. This could be anything from 90 to 120 minutes. The application of the laser lasts around 20 minutes, but you’ll have to factor in the pre-treatment anesthetic, which can take up to an hour to begin working.
The number of sessions depends on the depth of your imperfections. If they are minimal, then you should see some significant improvement after one treatment. However, the standard candidate may benefit more from a series of three to six treatments, each spread one month apart.
Fraxel® II Re:store is the type of treatment that you can have performed year-round. However, you might find it more beneficial to get it during the winter months, as you are less likely to have tanned skin. If this happens, the pigment from the tan may compromise your results.
