Sculptra® Aesthetic
AT DERMACARE MEDICAL AESTHETICS
Volume loss and signs of aging are something that everyone faces at some point, especially as they get closer to the golden years of their lives. As collagen production begins to drop, you may notice that your skin quality is getting worse, with regular HA fillers no longer being able to keep up with the loss. From that point, it’s better to look for a treatment that helps the skin produce what’s needed rather than just “fill” in the hollow areas.
Sculptra® Aesthetic is not an overnight miracle or a quick fix, but it is a long-lasting injectable treatment. This is the first facial injectable that gives you subtle results over time, replacing lost collagen and giving you a more natural-looking appearance. Individuals looking to improve their skin quality can schedule a Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment at Dermacare Medical Aesthetics to obtain beautiful and natural results.

Candidates for Sculptra Aesthetic
Almost everyone can be a good candidate for Sculptra Aesthetic, provided they are at least 18 years old. That said, the ideal candidate is someone in their 40s or older, who experiences more severe signs of aging. This patient wants a longer-lasting, natural-looking result that restores volume and improves the texture of the skin.
Sculptra Aesthetic can address the following issues:
- Facial volume loss
- Hollow cheeks and temples
- Sagging jawline/jowls
- Nasolabial folds and marionette lines
Sculptra Aesthetic may not be a suitable solution if your goal is to add more volume to the lip area. It is also not a good choice to use around the eyes because the skin is delicate and thin in that area. Since poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a biostimulator, it can lead to uneven collagen buildup, due to the increased sensitivity.
The treatment may not be appropriate for those who desire immediate results, as Sculptra Aesthetic is not exactly a filler. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consider postponing your injectable appointment until it is safe to do so.
How Sculptra Aesthetic Works
Sculptra is a facial injectable made from poly-L-lactic acid, which helps to replace lost collagen. As you age, your body’s collagen production decreases, and you may begin to see wrinkles. Sculptra gradually works to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds as it replaces lost collagen. This can help provide a refined, more youthful appearance that can last up to two years. On average, three injection sessions are needed over a few months. The number of injection sessions and the number of injections per session vary from person to person.
Sculptra Aesthetic Recovery
Recovery after Sculptra Aesthetic is short-lived and straightforward, and most patients can return to their daily routine right away. Patients may notice mild redness, swelling, and bruising in the treatment area. The first two symptoms rarely last for more than a day or two, and the bruised area(s) should clear within three to seven days.
Patients can wear makeup about 24 to 48 hours after the treatment, provided the treatment area has closed. Strenuous workouts should be avoided after the treatment as this can further irritate the skin and prolong the recovery. Ideally, alcohol and smoking should be avoided as this can slow down the healing process.
A few tips to keep in mind include:
- Avoid harsh exfoliants or massaging the area too much, these actions could cause the injectable to migrate from the intended area.
- Be gentle, as this helps the formula distribute evenly.
- Stay hydrated to preserve the skin’s quality.
- Wear sunblock before going out because it protects the skin and prevents UV-related damage from compromising your results
Sculptra Aesthetic Results
The results from Sculptra Aesthetic are gradual. Unlike traditional fillers, this injectable does not plump the skin immediately. Instead, it works with the body to produce more collagen, and the first signs of improvement begin to appear after about one month. The full effects are visible after around three months, once the new collagen has matured. The skin should appear smoother, tighter, and more youthful once the treatment has run its full course.
The results can last for up to two years or more, depending on how well the skin is taken care of. This happens due to the consistent collagen stimulation properties of poly-L-lactic acid, which continues for a year or more. Once the body stops reacting to the PLLA, the remaining collagen will mature and lift the facial features, offering long-lasting, refreshed skin.
To maintain the results, we recommend that you undergo maintenance treatments yearly or bi-yearly. The frequency depends on your current skin quality, which should be discussed with our Dermacare Medical Aesthetics providers during your consultation.

Will I Get a “Done” Look After Receiving Sculptra Aesthetic Treatments?
If you want a look that’s not obvious, then Sculptra may be a good option for you. Unlike other injectable treatments, Sculptra gradually replaces lost collagen. The gradual results are natural-looking and can last up to two years.
Are Sculptra Aesthetic Injections Painful?
For the most part, patients should not feel any more than a pinching sensation during the Sculptra Aesthetic treatment.
Since the injectable is pre-mixed to include lidocaine, most patients should not feel discomfort as they exit the office. That said, if you are particularly sensitive to injections or needles, a topical treatment can be used to numb the area first.
Will One Sculptra Aesthetic Treatment Be Enough to Get Results?
This depends on your current skin condition and quality. Patients in their 30s rarely need more than one Sculptra Aesthetic treatment as their skin still produces enough collagen. However, those with severe signs of aging might have to get two to three treatments, spaced one month apart, for the best results.
