Are you looking to achieve a more youthful, revitalized appearance? Dermacare’s PicoSure skin rejuvenation treatments offer a quick and easy, nonsurgical laser treatment that corrects unwanted pigmentation issues as well as treats fine wrinkles and lines and scars from acne. This innovative technology delivers short, targeted bursts of laser energy precisely to your concern areas, to minimize the appearance of brown spots, sun damage, freckles, pigmented lesions, wrinkles or acne scars, to identify only a few of the problems you can treat with PicoSure.
Also, if you have unwanted symptoms in other concern areas — such as the chest, décolleté, hands and legs — you can also treat these areas without the discomfort and recovery time you might experience from other laser treatments. Whatever your concern area, a PicoSure treatment will leave you with a refreshed and youthful look.
PicoSure’s unique combination of leading-edge light-based technology treatments target all three layers of tissue, epidermal pigment, mid-dermal wrinkles, and deep-dermal laxity. Then the body’s natural healing process sweeps away older, damaged tissue and rebuilds it with fresh, new collagen and elastin — the crucial building blocks of youthful looking skin.
How does PicoSure work?
Pico lasers are the world’s first and only picosecond aesthetic laser platforms for multiple aesthetic applications including tattoo removal, acne scar treatment, removal of pigmented lesions and wrinkle treatment. This unparalleled breakthrough in laser technology delivers ultra-short pulse bursts of energy to the skin in trillionths of a second to gently target and break down pigment without harming the surrounding skin. Your body’s lymphatic system will naturally carry away damaged pigment cells, leaving your skin looking clearer and more even.
PicoSure not only improves pigmentation issues and scarring but also helps your skin look younger, too. The laser energy delivered to your skin by PicoSure gently heats the lower tissue layers. This gentle heating action induces a healing in response in your skin. As a result, your skin produces more collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin give your skin its underlying structure, volume and elasticity and help it look and feel hydrated. After a PicoSure skin rejuvenation treatment, early aging features such as fine wrinkles and lines will appear smoothed and reduced, leaving you with noticeably healthier and younger looking skin.
What symptoms does PicoSure treat?
PicoSure can treat a variety of common, unwanted blemishes, pigmentation issues and early aging symptoms, including:
- acne scarring
- brown spots
- fine facial lines
- pigmented lesions
- stretch marks
What are the benefits of a PicoSure treatment?
A PicoSure treatment offers patients an effective way to minimize skin imperfections, such as acne scarring and pigmentation issues, improve their skin texture and tone and minimize the early signs of aging, such as early onset wrinkles and lines. PicoSure’s benefits include:
- non-invasive treatment
- treats many common, unwanted skin symptoms
- short procedure time
- minimal risks
- little to no recovery time
What are the risks of having PicoSure?
While all medical procedures carry some risks, PicoSure has very few serious risks, and they do not occur frequently. One risk associated with laser treatments in general, however, is the potential for long-term skin discoloration after your procedure. For this reason, individuals with lighter color skin tend to face fewer risks when having a laser skin treatment than individuals with darker skin, since they have less pigment in their skin, overall, before the procedure. However, people with darker skin can still have a PicoSure skin treatment. If you have darker skin and are concerned about this risk, talk to your Dr. Birchall about whether PicoSure is right for you.
Am I a candidate for PicoSure?
Patients who have good health and reasonable expectations about the benefits a PicoSure skin rejuvenation treatment can provide make good candidates for the procedure. PicoSure, like any other medical procedure, has a few contraindications. Let Dr. Birchall know if your medical history includes any of the following conditions:
- a hypersensitivity to infrared light
- medications which increase light sensitivity
- seizures triggered by light
- you have Type 1 diabetes
- you have Herpes in the treatment area
- you have an infection in the treatment area
- you have moles (nevi) which may be predisposed to malignant melanoma
How long does a PicoSure treatment take?
One of the many benefits of a PicoSure treatment is that it is both an effective and a fast way to minimize scarring and aging signs and improve pigmentation issues. In fact, you can have a single PicoSure treatment in as little as 15 minutes or less, making it an ideal treatment to have during your lunch hour, for example, or if you have an extremely busy schedule. The size of your treatment area will be the primary determinate of how long your PicoSure treatment session will take. Dr. Birchall can better estimate how long your specific procedure will take during your in-person consultation and after examining you fully.
How many treatments will I need to get results?
Typically, Dr. Birchall will recommend you begin with a series of three to four treatments to get the best results from a PicoSure treatment. However, your needs may require you to have more or fewer treatments. Treatment intervals are generally two to four weeks apart, but they can be up to eight weeks apart if you have darker skin, however.
Since each patient is unique, you will need to have a full evaluation by Dr. Birchall during your complimentary, in-person consultation before having PicoSure treatment. This will help determine whether PicoSure is right for you, how many treatments you will need and the best course of treatment overall to achieve your cosmetic goals.
How long does recovery from a PicoSure treatment take?
Side effects of PicoSure are generally mild and subside quickly. The most frequent common side effects patients report after PicoSure include temporary redness and swelling at the treatment site that typically resolves in less than an hour but in some cases may linger for up to 24 hours. You can ice the treatments areas or take over-the-counter pain medications to increase your comfort if these symptoms occur. You will not have any specific aftercare instructions to follow, however, after your PicoSure treatment.
