Over time, the condition of the skin can change due to sun exposure, environmental pollutants and the natural aging process. You may notice that your complexion begins to look dull and worn, while the appearance of fine lines and pigmentations spots add to an aged appearance. One efficient way to restore your healthy radiance is through an exfoliating treatment that removes outer skin cells to let smoother, more youthful skin shine through. Microdermabrasion is one of the treatments we offer at Dermacare Laser & Skin Care Clinics, providing our patients with a noninvasive, customizable option to refresh and rejuvenate the complexion.
How does Microdermabrasion Work?
Crystal-free microdermabrasion uses a diamond-tipped tool to comfortably polish away dead skin layers and reveals healthier, more youthful-looking skin. The device targets the outermost skin layers, which does not traumatize the underlying dermal tissue to require any anesthesia or recovery time after treatment. Through a series of treatment sessions, this procedure can also stimulate collagen production, allowing you to enjoy natural, long-lasting results.
Microdermabrasion is safe for most skin types and can reduce the appearance of minor imperfections like fine lines, shallow scarring and superficial pigmentation marks. At the same time, you will leave our office after your microdermabrasion treatment with silky smooth skin and a radiant glow.
What does it Treat?
There are a variety of skin concerns that can be addressed with a microdermabrasion treatment:
- Rough skin texture
- Uneven skin tone
- Brown spots
- Fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Shallow scarring
You will also find a microdermabrasion procedure brightens your complexion and produces a healthy glow that you will sport for many days or even weeks. Microdermabrasion can also be combined with other treatments to enhance your cosmetic results further. We often recommend a MicroFusion treatment in conjunction with microdermabrasion due to the superior results we have seen with this combination.
How is it Performed?
Dr. Birchall and his staff perform microdermabrasion treatments right in our office, with procedures typically taking less than one hour. Because the process is painless, you will not need an anesthesia or numbing cream before treatment. We will move the diamond-tipped tool gently across your skin to remove out skin cells and debris from the dermis. You will feel a scratching sensation as the device works, but it will not be painful. A suction mechanism incorporated into the device removes the cells as they are exfoliated from the skin’s surface.
Are There Risks Associated with Microdermabrasion?
Due to its noninvasive nature, microdermabrasion is a very safe procedure to perform. Some patients may experience tenderness or mild swelling after treatment, which should only last a few days. The skin may also become dry and flaky after the procedure as the exfoliation process continues to work. We will recommend skin care products that will nourish your skin after treatment to reduce side effects and enhance your results.
How Soon Will I See Results?
You will leave our office with skin that is smoother and more evenly toned. Those results will continue to improve in the days following your procedure as the exfoliating process continues to work in some cases. We recommend a series of five monthly treatment for best results. Once you achieve your desired outcome, a touch-up treatment every few months should help you maintain your healthy radiance.
What is MicroFusion?
A MicroFusion treatment is a gentle, yet powerful exfoliating treatment for dry, environmentally-damaged skin that exhibits signs of premature aging. This customizable procedure uses a variety of non-abrasive retinol, beta-hydroxy and alpha-hydroxy acids to retexture and smooth the complexion, while a hydrating mask of vitamin-enriched antioxidants repairs and restores the skin’s health, elasticity, tone and texture. When performed after microdermabrasion, the ingredients are better able to penetrate the freshly exfoliated skin, producing even better results when the two procedures are combined.
