Hair Restoration AT DERMACARE MEDICAL AESTHETICS

Hair loss can be a complex issue, especially when no treatment seems to work the way you want. Maybe you’ve slathered on oils. Maybe you’ve stocked up on every “miracle” vitamin. But no matter how hard you tried, the shedding didn’t stop — and your hairline kept creeping back, thinner than ever.

Very few people realize that hair restoration doesn’t simply involve a quick fix. Instead, it’s a “team effort” between multiple forms of treatment. Depending on your hair needs, our providers at Dermacare Medical Aesthetics can find the appropriate treatment plan for you.

Candidates for Hair Restoration

Ideal candidates for hair restoration are patients who experience thinning and shedding but don’t want to undergo a hair transplant. The treatment can be used by men and women alike, whether stress, genetics, hormonal changes, age, or medical conditions are the cause of their hair loss.

Consider non-surgical hair restoration if you notice the following signs:

  • Excessive shedding, especially during showers
  • Receding hairline
  • Noticeable thinning
  • Widened hair parting
  • Patchy hair loss

You may not be a good candidate if you have complete baldness, you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, or you are undergoing medical treatments that cause hair loss (e.g., chemotherapy). It’s best to schedule a consultation with our Dermacare Medical Aesthetics providers to see your options.

How Hair Restoration Works

Hair restoration works by awakening hair follicles and increasing blood flow so that hair grows back. It’s an alternative to hair transplant, as hair restoration treats the follicles that are already there. This is done through bio-stimulation and nourishment, which extends the hair growth phase and thickens the hair.

One of the hero treatments for hair restoration is the FoLix laser. FoLix is the first FDA-cleared fractional laser system specifically designed for non-invasive hair loss treatment in both men and women. Developed by Lumenis, this innovative technology utilizes targeted laser energy to stimulate hair follicles by enhancing blood flow and activating natural healing processes, leading to increased hair count and improved scalp appearance. The treatment involves a quick, 30-minute session with minimal discomfort, requiring no needles, anesthesia, or downtime. Typically, patients undergo four to six sessions spaced four weeks apart, with maintenance treatments recommended two to three times per year. FoLix offers a safe, chemical-free alternative to traditional hair restoration methods, making it the ideal option for those seeking a non-surgical solution to hair loss.

For maximum hair restoration efficiency, FoLix laser is used in combination with the following treatments:

  • PRP Injections: Uses platelet-rich plasma from your blood to send nourishment to the scalp. This increases blood flow to the follicle and starts a regenerative process. It extends the growth phase and awakens dormant follicles.
  • Ariessence: This is a topical serum that is rich in peptides, botanical extracts, and bioavailable nutrients. This supports proper circulation and detoxifies the scalp, leaving no residue behind.
  • Red Light Therapy Cap: The wearable cap uses LLLT (low-level laser therapy) to send red light into the scalp. This stimulates the scalp at a cellular level and promotes blood circulation to strengthen the hair follicles.
  • Nutrafol Supplement: This supplement uses antioxidants, adaptogens, marine collagen, and other powerful ingredients to target the root cause of hair loss. This brings the body into balance from the inside while the others treat matters from the outside.
  • Minoxidil: A vasodilator, this serum is applied twice a day to stimulate blood flow and deliver nourishment. The treatment aims to prolong the growth phase, giving the hair enough time to grow thicker before it sheds.

When these treatments are used together, they create an environment where the hair grows more easily. These procedures treat the scalp from the inside out, so your hair strands won’t be in such a “hurry” to shed anymore.

How FoLix Works

Using laser to harness the body’s natural processes, FoLix promotes blood circulation and growth factors activity, stimulating the hair follicles.

Hair Restoration Recovery

Hair restoration, especially non-surgical restoration, requires little to no downtime. Some treatments, such as FoLix and PRP, can cause some scalp tenderness and redness. However, the side effects usually fade within a day or two. In rare cases, topical treatments can cause irritation or unwanted hair growth on the face if the application is splotchy.

Our providers at Dermacare Medical Aesthetics will offer the necessary home-care instructions. Most patients can return to their routines immediately, but it’s important to protect the scalp. Steer clear of excessive UV exposure, especially during the first few days of recovery. A lightweight scarf is often better than a hat for protecting the scalp, and you should refrain from putting the hair in a ponytail during the recovery stage.

Hair Restoration Results

Results are not immediate, especially if the hair thinning is significant. Most patients see less shedding after three months and the emergence of “baby hairs.” The hairline should also be darker at this point, with the new growth concealing it.

After six months, you should notice that the hair is thicker and the “baby hairs” are about two to three inches long. The longer hair strands should also look healthier at this point, as the follicles are receiving nourishment.

Full results are visible within one to three years after the treatment, once the restored hair has grown long enough. Depending on the severity of hair loss, you might need repeated treatments and maintenance sessions. This, together with a healthy lifestyle and good hair care routine, can prevent the follicles from weakening again.

How Often Should I Get Hair Restoration Treatments?

This depends on the treatment you are currently following. PRP and FoLix offer optimal effects after three to six treatments, spaced one month apart. Topical treatments can be applied until you reach your goal and even longer. However, it’s recommended that you take breaks between supplements (three months on, three months off) to prevent your body from growing dependent on them.

Do I Need to Get Hair Restoration Treatments Forever?

The length of time that you undergo hair restoration treatments depends on what’s causing the hair loss. However, while you can stop the treatment once you reach your goal, maintenance is key. Getting a yearly treatment can keep the follicles from becoming inactive again.

Is Hair Restoration Uncomfortable?

Hair restoration treatments last about 15 to 30 minutes in the office. During that time, you may experience some mild discomfort from the laser or needles, but it’s well-tolerated by most patients. If you have a particularly sensitive scalp, a numbing cream can be used to decrease discomfort.
