Potenza™ AT DERMACARE SAN DIEGO

Microneedling and radiofrequency have been around for a long time, and their applications are great for treating different skin concerns. Now, with Potenza™, these two treatments have merged into one tool. With the ability to treat conditions like wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, or even acne, Potenza™ can help you recover your youthful glow in just a few sessions. At Dermacare Laser & Skincare Clinics, we offer Potenza™ treatments to anyone who wants to improve the quality of their skin.

Candidates

Potenza™ can be performed on anyone, regardless of their skin type or tone. However, this treatment is especially beneficial for men and women who experience mild to moderate aging signs. As the treatment aims to trigger the production of new collagen and elastin, it is great for anyone who has fine lines, wrinkles, or issues with skin laxity.

If you have acne-prone skin and scars resulting from this condition, then you can also benefit from the Potenza™ treatment. The heating element caused by the radiofrequency can kill the bacteria present in your pores, reducing the chances of a breakout. That being said, you should avoid the treatment if you have an active breakout and wait until the symptoms pass. The microneedling part of the treatment can help trigger the collagen production necessary to fill in the acne gaps.

Some people may not be good candidates for Potenza™ treatments, as it can cause their skin to feel overly sensitive. This includes those who have taken anti-acne medicine in the past six months, along with people who undertook radiation treatments in the past year. It is best to consult with one of the providers at Dermacare to determine if you are a good candidate for the Potenza™ treatment or not.

How Potenza™ Works

Potenza™ works by triggering the natural healing process of your skin. You shed millions of skin cells every day, a process that gets slower year after year. Wound healing also slows as a result, which is what Potenza™ tries to reactivate.

The Potenza™ microneedling device combines bipolar and monopolar radiofrequency energy at four different modes. It allows for shallow and deep treatments alike, heating the skin through ultrafine needles and creating micro-injuries. This triggers your skin’s natural elastin and collagen production, tightening your skin and promoting cell turnover.

Potenza™ may be adjusted to different skin types, depending on the level of aggressiveness that you can handle. Bipolar wavelengths are more superficial and recommended for people with lighter skin. Monopolar wavelengths go deeper, making them perfect for people with darker skin. A consultation with Dermacare specialists may determine which wavelength works best for your needs.

Recovery

Potenza™ treatments are often well-tolerated, with minimal side effects and a low potential for downtime. Most patients can return to their daily activities right after getting the procedure done. The session takes around 30-45 minutes or less, making it the perfect lunchtime treatment.

Your skin can be quite sensitive at this point, so you should stay out of direct sunlight for a couple of days. You may notice some temporary tingling on your skin, pinpoint bleeding, redness, and potential swelling. These symptoms should go away within a few days, and the swelling will not usually last longer than 48 hours.

During this time, make sure to wear solar protection and stay away from makeup for the next two days after the treatment. Try not to touch the affected skin during this time, as it may lead to bacteria accumulation and potential scarring.

Results

You may notice the first results of a Potenza™ treatment within a week after you’ve had your session. Your skin will appear brighter as it renews itself, giving you a much healthier glow. Potenza™ also allows for better absorption of skincare products, which is why you’ll notice how your daily routine may become more effective.

The full scope of the Potenza™ results may be visible within three to five months after the treatment. The microneedling process will activate your collagen and elastin production, which can take some time to rebuild underneath your skin. Your fine lines and wrinkles may become less noticeable, and you may notice that your skin is firmer.

To maintain these effects, you should follow an appropriate skincare treatment and make sure to always wear sunblock. To enjoy the results of this treatment in the long term, you can repeat it once or twice a year. After your initial Potenza™ treatment, you may schedule a maintenance procedure within six to eight months, to keep the collagen production going.
