LUX 1540 Fractional Laser AT DERMACARE SAN DIEGO

What Is It?

The Lux 1540 Fractional Laser is a medical-grade device that administers concentrated light into deep layers of the skin. When the light hits the deeper layers of the dermis, it is converted into heat, causing “damage” to the underlying layers. This process triggers the body’s natural healing response, flooding the areas with collagen, elastin and a host of other healing factors that can improve on textural and tonal skin concerns.

Why Do We Need It?

As a fractionated device, the Lux 1540 only targets a portion of the skin in a targeted area at any given time. This allows the healing process to begin much more quickly and finish more rapidly than non-fractionated treatments. The fractionated technology decreases the likelihood of causing long-term damage and improves the consistency of results from patient to patient.

There are many different offenders when it comes to degrading the health and appearance of our skin. The first and most prominent factor is the natural aging process. Unfortunately, at some point in their life, everyone will experience a decline in the youthfulness of their appearance. Several vital functions begin to break down as we get older, including the production of collagen, the protein most responsible for keeping our skin taut. It is estimated that by the age of 20, most people will lose about 1% of their body’s collagen production annually.

Scarring is also a prominent concern that can profoundly affect our appearance. Whether the cause is acne, stretch marks, surgery or trauma, scarring can throw off even the most balanced and harmonious facial appearance. The same can be said of discoloration conditions like rosacea and melasma.

We need Lux 1540 Fractional Laser treatments because there are very few ways to address these conditions without it, especially when you are looking for the same level of safety and reliability that fractional laser technology provides.

What Does It Treat?

The Lux 1540 Fractionated Laser can treat many different skin conditions, including:

There are two types of laser devices: ablative and non-ablative. Ablation refers to the removal of a layer of skin during the treatment process. In some cases, this can be beneficial. (Many cosmetic treatments aim to remove a problematic top layer and reveal a healthy underlying glow.) But in others, it is not needed and only serves to increase the severity of the recovery.

Am I a Candidate?

Because of how light reacts with skin, some patients with darker skin tones may not be good candidates for laser therapy. This is because darker skin tones absorb the light more efficiently, increasing the amount of heat in the skin and making it difficult to achieve enough energy in the deeper layers without causing damage to the surface.

The only way to know if you are a candidate is to come into our office for a consultation. Even if the Lux 1540 laser is not a good option for you, we can help you determine a different route to achieve your cosmetic goals.

How Should I Prepare?

Since the Lux 1540 laser is noninvasive, you will not need to worry about making any substantial or prolonged preparations. You can simply arrive on the day of your procedure with nothing other than the excitement you have to achieve your results. We recommend avoiding excessive sun exposure before your treatment since it can damage your skin and cause unnecessary discomfort during the procedure.

What Is the Procedure Like?

The procedure is very simple and can be completed in three steps. The first step is to clean the skin to prevent infection and apply a topical anesthetic to ensure comfort. The second step is the application of the laser energy directly to the targeted area. The device uses cooling technology on the skin’s surface to help mitigate any discomfort, and patients often describe the entire process as extremely tolerable and only slightly uncomfortable. This does depend on your threshold for pain or discomfort, however. Once the treatment is complete, your face will be cleaned again, and you will be sent back to your routine to begin recovery.

What Is the Recovery Like?

Patients typically only experience mild symptoms like redness, swelling or discomfort for a couple of days. We highly recommend avoiding sun exposure as much as possible and wearing sunscreen whenever you can. This will help prolong your results and prevent any damage to your improved skin.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect?

We have found that most patients will need about three to five sessions in order to achieve ideal results. This is because of two reasons: the first is that collagen growth continues to develop over time, and the second is because lasers only target a portion of the skin each session to avoid long-term skin damage. Each of these treatments is typically spaced out at least two weeks, but the final details will depend on your body’s unique reaction to the treatment.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

According to clinical studies, the most successful regimen is three to five sessions that are spaced between two and four weeks apart. During your consultation and follow-up appointments, we will help you develop the ideal treatment plan for your condition.

How Much Does It Cost?

Lux 1540 treatment can cost between $600 and $800 per session, depending on the amount of correction performed and your specific cosmetic goals. While this is a solid ballpark estimate to give you an idea of what to expect per session, a final cost will be provided to you during your consultation with one of the medical professionals at Dermacare.
