The eyes are often among the first areas to show the signs of aging. Puffiness and dark circles can plague the lower lid area, making you look like you are perpetually tired. Fine lines can also appear around the outer corners of the eyes as well as underneath, which seem to be that much more visible due to the thinner skin in the area. If you look in the mirror and see older, more tired eyes looking back at you, maybe it’s time for a cosmetic treatment at Dermacare Laser & Skin Care Clinics.
The Injectable Option
Injectable fillers are used for a host of cosmetic purposes today. Originally touted as a way to smooth away wrinkles from the lower half of the face, these formulations now restore youthful volume in areas like the cheeks, add fullness to the lips and even address the early signs of jowling along the jawline. Now, physicians are discovering that these injectable treatments can be used to refresh and rejuvenate the eyes as well.
Choices in Dermal Fillers
At Dermacare Laser & Skin Care Clinics, we offer two options in dermal fillers that we have found work very well in the eye area:
Juvederm – This popular wrinkle filler can be injected underneath the eyes to restore volume to the tear trough area. It is often used at the same time to add definition to sunken cheeks, giving a youthful appearance to the entire mid-face area.
Restylane – Restylane Silk is a particularly smooth filler for the delicate area under the eyes. In addition to filling in the tear trough, Restylane Silk can be used to gently smooth away fine lines like crow’s feet that appear in the outer corners of the eyes and shallow wrinkles that often form under the eyes.
Dr. Birchall will conduct an initial examination and discuss your aesthetic goals with you before determining which of these formulations might meet your needs best.
Adding Botox to the Mix
In some cases, Botox may be added to the treatment protocol. This neuromodulator is effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles across the forehead and between the eyebrows. It is also approved to smooth away crow’s feet from the outer eye. Dr. Birchall may determine Botox is a better option for you in this area, but the treatment can be combined with dermal filler injections to produce a completely rejuvenated appearance around the eyes.
About the Procedure
Because the skin surrounding the eyes tends to be thinner and more delicate, Botox and dermal fillers need to be injected more deeply than they might be in other areas of the face. For this reason, some patients may choose to have a topical numbing cream administered prior to treatment to ensure comfort during the procedure. Some of our dermal filler formulations also include lidocaine, which increases your level of comfort during the injection process.
Recovery and Results
Injections of both dermal fillers and Botox take just a few minutes to complete. After treatment, you are able to return to regular activities right away. You may experience some slight swelling and bruising from the injections, but these side effects usually subside within a day or two. Results of both Botox and dermal fillers are temporary, so you will need to repeat your treatments periodically to maintain your positive results. Most patients enjoy good results for around six months with both Juvederm and Restylane. Botox injections usually last 3-4 months.
If you are tired of looking tired, solutions are available. At Dermacare Laser & Skin Care Clinics, we have seen very positive results using dermal fillers around the eye area to eliminate fine lines, puffiness and hollowing in the tear trough.
