In the quest for younger-looking skin, microneedling has become an increasingly popular rejuvenation technique. This method works deep within the dermis to stimulate the body’s natural processes and produce a smoother, more youthful complexion. Microneedling can be used to address the effects of age, sun damage, and other blemishes or scars that have developed on the skin over time.
At Dermacare Medical Aesthetics, our highly experienced cosmetic physician, Dr. Jeff Birchall, and his team of specialists perform microneedling treatments to help patients achieve a supple skin tone and healthier appearance.
PRP microneedling is a safe and powerful treatment that helps people of all ages feel great about their skin. It works well for almost every skin type and is perfect for anyone who wants to smooth out wrinkles, fix uneven texture, or just get a healthy glow.
What makes it special? It uses your own blood to help your skin heal and look better—so there’s almost no risk of your body reacting badly to it.
Microneedling is a versatile, multi-purpose treatment that can be performed on various areas of the body. While the face is the most common treatment area, the procedure can also help to tighten loose skin around the neck, chest, and décolletage.
For those with skin concerns on the arms, back, hands, or legs, microneedling is also a suitable restoration method.
By targeting the dermal structure, the procedure can replenish the underlying tissue and address the following issues:
Microneedling with PRP is also beneficial for individuals who cannot undergo laser treatment, for example, patients with darker skin tones. To ensure optimal results, Dr. Birchall will assess your skin and consider your needs to determine whether this combination therapy is suitable for you.
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skin restoration method that works alongside the body’s immune response. The procedure uses a handheld device to puncture the skin and create controlled micro-injuries in the skin.
This process triggers the body’s natural healing response, encouraging collagen and elastin production, and accelerating cell turnover to restore the skin tissue and heal the perceived wounds. Gradually, this natural reaction works to restore your complexion by evening out skin tone and smoothing out fine lines, stretch marks, acne scars, and other textural irregularities.
Once microneedling is performed, the serums will infuse thoroughly into the skin, allowing for better penetration of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). This is a concentrated group of cells in the blood that contains growth factors and stem cells. As an all-natural skin serum, it is beneficial for repairing damaged tissue and strengthening the dermal structure. The microneedling allows the ingredients to work deep within the dermal layers, creating superior results compared to topical application.
The benefits of this combination therapy include:
Microneedling is performed using a topical anesthetic and may take from 30 minutes to one hour to complete, depending on the extent of treatment required. It is a highly customizable procedure; the depth of the device is adjustable and can be tailored to the unique needs and concerns of each patient.
Similar to the side effects of microneedling, you will likely experience some redness or tenderness after treatment. After undergoing microneedling with PRP, it is vital to nourish, hydrate, and protect the skin with the appropriate products and ingredients.
You can also expect your skin to feel slightly tender. These side effects are normal and usually subside within one to two days. Since microneedling requires no downtime, most patients can return to work or resume regular activity right after treatment.
Based on your needs, Dr. Birchall and our skincare experts can suggest the most suitable products to support the regeneration of cells and enhance the results of your rejuvenation treatment.
While you may notice a healthy natural glow after your microneedling procedure, optimal results will begin to appear in the weeks following treatment. Within two weeks, most patients can flaunt a revitalized complexion and a beautiful natural glow. That said, most of our patients see significant improvements in their skin within six to eight weeks.
However, this will vary slightly for each individual depending on how the body adapts to treatment. These results will continue to progress over the coming months as collagen production increases to support the dermal structure.
The final effect will be a more radiant and refreshed complexion that complements your overall look. The results will last for an average of six to 12 months, with good skincare. It’s recommended you get a maintenance treatment every year.

As an innovative, customizable procedure, microneedling can be performed on men and women of all ages. Whether your skin is thick or paper-thin, this treatment can be performed on any area of the body with no necessary age restrictions to dictate your suitability. Though your age will likely be related to your needs and concerns, the procedure can be adjusted accordingly to create beautiful, personalized results.
Since a topical anesthetic is applied to the skin before microneedling, most patients find the procedure to be relatively comfortable. Some patients describe the sensation as similar to sandpaper moving across the skin. However, the device generally moves too quickly to cause much pain.
To obtain the PRP, we draw a small amount of blood, most often from the patient’s arm. This process is safe, simple, and will be similar to what you would expect during a blood test. We then place the blood into a centrifuge that separates the platelet-rich plasma from the other components of the blood. This process is completed as we clean and prepare your skin for treatment. The concentrated PRP serum is then applied topically to the surface before microneedling. This allows the needles to drive the stem cells and growth factors directly into the deeper layers of the dermis, where they can achieve the most significant effect.
