LATISSE®

AT DERMACARE MEDICAL AESTHETICS

People who want longer lashes often turn to false eyelashes, but those can be tricky to use and cost a lot of money. LATISSE® is a better choice because it helps your real lashes grow longer and thicker. It’s a simple solution you can apply at home, and you may start to see a big difference in just a few months. Give your lashes a boost with LATISSE® treatments at Dermacare Medical Aesthetics.

Candidates for LATISSE®

The best candidates for LATISSE® are those looking for longer, thicker eyelashes without resorting to extensions. The treatment works for anyone, no matter how long their lashes are. However, it’s most beneficial for those who have thin or sparse eyelashes. Patients should have realistic expectations regarding the results.

The best people to use this lash serum are those who don’t have any eye or vision problems. It works best for people who don’t wear contact lenses. If you do wear contacts, take them out before using LATISSE®. After you put it on, wait 15 minutes before putting your contacts back in so the serum has time to dry.

You should not have any active eye infections, such as conjunctivitis, as LATISSE® can worsen the symptoms. If you’ve had eye surgery, make sure to get clearance from your provider. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use caution or avoid it entirely, as there aren’t enough studies to support safety.

How LATISSE® Works

LATISSE® makes lash growth possible because of its active ingredient: bimatoprost. With a concentration of 0.03%, it is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for inadequate or not having enough eyelashes, growing them longer, fuller, and darker. The product was originally used to treat glaucoma, but its cosmetic use became apparent when patients noted lash growth as a side effect.

LATISSE® helps lashes grow by keeping them in the growth stage longer. This means your lashes can grow longer, thicker, and darker. It also helps keep them from falling out too soon.

LATISSE® is a once-a-day treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes. Patients in a clinical trial saw results gradually develop over time (starting at four weeks, with full results after 16 weeks).

LATISSE® Recovery

LATISSE® is a serum you apply to your upper lash line, which means it comes with no recovery or downtime. Patients can resume their daily activities right after application. However, we recommend that you wait at least 15 minutes after using LATISSE® before you apply contacts or makeup.

While LATISSE® is a generally well-tolerated product, side effects can occur in some people. Redness and itching can appear in those with more sensitive skin, but these subside once the skin gets accustomed to the product. Some patients note a darkening of the eyelid skin, but this usually goes away once you stop the treatment.

In rare cases, some may note increased pigmentation of the iris. This can happen if you have light-colored eyes, but it can be avoided if LATISSE® does not get in your eye.

To reduce the chances of side effects, ensure the eye is clean before applying with a sterile applicator. Use a cold compress to soothe the area, but get in touch with a medical provider if the redness persists. You can use brightening eye serums to reduce potential pigmentation on the eyelid if it bothers you.

LATISSE® Results

LATISSE® results are gradual, as you’ll have to wait for the active agents to take effect. You may not notice significant growth and thickness within the first month, but you may see fewer lashes falling.

Subtle changes appear after one to two months, as the lashes begin to increase in length and thickness. This becomes even more apparent after two to three months, as your lashes become noticeably longer, darker, and fuller. Full effects are noticeable after about four months, but this can vary from one patient to another.

You can maintain the results for as long as you use LATISSE®, but the lashes will return to their original growth phase after you stop the treatment. This happens after a few weeks or months. You can take LATISSE® in the long term, but talk with our providers about ongoing applications.

Can I Combine LATISSE® with Other Treatments?

This treatment can be combined with JUVÉDERM®, Fraxel®, and BOTOX®/Dysport® for a complete eye rejuvenation. Schedule your consultation today to get started on your way to the longer, fuller, darker eyelashes.
You can apply LATISSE® at any time of the day, but the best moment is in the evening, an hour before bedtime. This ensures you apply it on clean, product-free skin and gives it enough time to dry. Remember, wait at least 15 minutes if you plan on using skincare products.
Yes, you can use mascara or other types of makeup while following the LATISSE® treatment. Just make sure that the skin is dry and the product is fully absorbed by the time you apply makeup.
LATISSE® is only FDA-approved to be used on the upper lash line, but one of its off-label uses is to regrow your eyebrows. Careful application is recommended, as LATISSE® can cause excess hair growth if it spills. We don’t recommend using it on the lower lash line, as the skin is sensitive there and there is an increased risk of irritation.
