Candidates should keep in mind that Cellulaze™ is not a weight loss solution. While it does liquefy some of the fat cells in the target area, the focus is on cellulite reduction. If you want to address fat pockets, Dr. Birchall may recommend adjacent treatments.
How Cellulaze™ Works
Cellulaze™ uses laser energy to help fix the three main changes in the skin that cause cellulite. It works by:
- Releasing the tight bands under the skin, which helps the surface look smoother
- Melting the enlarged fat cells so the body can remove them and reduce the bulges
- Boosting collagen production to make the skin thicker and smoother over time
To keep our patients comfortable during a Cellulaze™ treatment, we use a local numbing medicine to keep you comfortable during the treatment. A thin tube called a cannula is then placed under the skin and guided to the area that needs care.
The cannula delivers laser energy into the tissue and dermal layers, which are the deeper parts of the skin, to provide the necessary correction. The laser treatment enhances the depth and quality of your skin while releasing fibrous bands and liquefying unwanted fat cells in the treatment area.
Cellulaze™ treatments may take an hour or more, but not typically more than 90 minutes to complete. The extent of the procedure will depend on numerous factors, including the size of your treatment area and the amount of fat you would like removed during your appointment.
Recovery
Because Cellulaze™ is a minimally invasive procedure, the recovery symptoms associated with the treatment are relatively minimal, as well. Some of the more frequent side effects include:
- Bruising
- Mild swelling
- Soreness
These symptoms are not severe and subside within a matter of days. Most of our patients take a day or two off work and other activities to rest and recover after their appointment. The bruising usually fades after one to two weeks, whereas the swelling can take around four weeks to subside (depending on the size of the treatment area).
After your treatment session, Dr. Birchall may recommend that you wear a compression garment for a few days to promote healing in the area and reduce swelling and bruising. Avoid prolonged heat exposure, such as hot tubs and sunbathing, within the first few days of the procedure.
As with any procedure, there is a slight risk of infection. However, at Dermacare, we take every step to avoid infection or other potential complications, ensuring our patients enjoy safe and effective treatments. We will instruct you on how to care for the incision site.
Results
Results from your Cellulaze™ treatment will become visible within days after your procedure. At Dermacare, we see results with only one treatment session, minimizing office visits and making the process of treating cellulite as convenient as possible for our patients.
After your procedure, you will notice stronger, smoother skin that resists textural changes often caused by sun damage and the aging process. The laser used during a Cellulaze™ treatment diminishes lumpy pockets of fat while treating cellulite to create a more youthful appearance.
Most patients see the initial effect of Cellulaze™ within a few weeks, after the swelling subsides. However, the full effect settles in around three to six months, after the fibrous bands and fat have broken down and the new collagen has matured.
The effects of Cellulaze™ can last up to three years or more, as this device offers one of the longest-lasting methods of cellulite treatments available today.
