A new study has found that popularity of cosmetic procedures is on a definitive rise, with as many as half of all consumers considering a cosmetic procedure in 2015. Data came from the 2015 ASDS Consumer Survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. The primary aesthetic goals of consumers included a desire to turn back the clock on one’s appearance, enhance the appearance and gain self-confidence. With more cosmetic procedures available than ever before, it appears the industry is ready to meet the needs of those looking for non-surgical options that offer excellent results with minimal discomfort and downtime.
Top Procedures
Those considering a cosmetic procedure tended to lean toward the following treatments:
- Skin Tightening and Wrinkle Reduction (66%) – using ultrasound, radiofrequency energy, lasers or light technology
- Laser Hair Removal (55%) – using state-of-the-art laser technology that offers permanent hair reduction
- Microdermabrasion (53%) – offers full skin exfoliation using a special tool that removes the outer layer of skin cells
- Skin Tone Enhancement (51%) – laser and light technology are commonly used to remove red spots, shallow scarring and uneven skin tone
Injectable treatments like Botox and soft tissue fillers like Juvederm and Restylane also received top satisfaction ratings from patients in this survey.

The survey also asked participants why they were considering cosmetic treatments. Answers varied and included:
- Excess weight on various areas of the body (88%)
- Uneven skin texture or tone (72%)
- Signs of aging around and underneath the eyes (69%)
