Once your wedding day is officially on the calendar, your thoughts may turn to removing body ink that might interfere with your wedding portraits. At Dermacare Laser & Skin Care Clinics, we offer one of the most effective methods of tattoo removal today. Our laser treatments successfully remove nearly all colors of tattoo ink, so that unwanted body art can become a distant memory. The process takes time, however, so the sooner you get started, the more likely you will be able to get rid of the tat completely before your big day rolls around.
The Problem with Tattoo Regret
Studies have shown that as many as one in five who get a tattoo eventually regret their ink at some point in their lives. That point is often a life-changing event like a new job or a wedding. Before you walk down the aisle is the perfect time to get rid of that shoulder tattoo that seemed so sexy in college or the name of your ex-girlfriend on your bicep. With an innovative laser treatment known as PicoSure, you can say goodbye to your tat before you say “I do.”
PicoSure is a revolutionary type of laser treatment that works to remove body ink faster and more safely than traditional Q-switched lasers used for this purpose in the past. Q-switched lasers relied on heating the body ink to remove it, which meant a higher risk of damage to surrounding skin and tissue. At the same time, Q-switched lasers often involved multiple treatment sessions and even then not all ink colors could be removed effectively.
The PicoSure laser works by emitting short, rapid pulses of energy, which shatter pigment into tiny particles that can then be absorbed naturally by the body. In fact, the PicoSure laser is designed to work 100 times faster than the standard Q-switched laser! The procedure typically offers better results in fewer treatment sessions, with less risk of side effects. PicoSure can also remove even stubborn ink colors like red, orange and yellow that usually cannot be effectively treated with other types of laser procedures.
How the Procedure Works
When you come in for your laser treatment, you will be given a topical anesthetic to keep you comfortable during the procedure. The laser energy will then be delivered to the skin using a handheld applicator. Cooling will also be applied to the skin to ensure a comfortable temperature throughout treatment.
Time for the procedure will vary significantly, depending on the size of the tattoo to be removed. Small tattoos may only take a few minutes to treat, while larger tattoos tend to take much longer. The average tattoo is about 4×4” and this size of tattoo should take less than 15 minutes for total treatment time.
After your PicoSure treatment, the skin may be slightly red and tender. You will be advised to keep the treatment area covered with an ointment, such as our laser recovery cream, for the first few days to allow the healing process to begin. It is also important to keep the treatment area away from direct sun exposure in between treatments, since this can affect the final results.
While patients will need more than one treatment session to eliminate the ink completely, PicoSure requires significantly fewer treatment sessions to get positive results. Most patients will see their complete outcome within six or less sessions, as opposed to 15-20 sessions with some other types of lasers.
