About the Study
The recent study was conducted by Julius Few, M.D., a clinical professor at the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University Of Chicago Pritzker School Of Medicine, and his colleagues. Researchers looked at 235 patients who underwent injections of Juvederm Voluma in their midface area. Test subjects were asked to record their satisfaction ratings with their procedures in 30-day diaries. Patients were followed up for two years, using the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIL), as well as the look and feel of the midface (LAFM) and the self-perception of age (SPA).
v]s saw improvements to their cheek and midface area six months after treatment. Nearly 90 percent were happy with their facial results after treatment. The study also found that nearly 80 percent of patients remained satisfied with their results a full two years after their initial treatment.
The patients surveyed reported looking five years younger six months after their procedure and three years younger two years after treatment. Common side effects reported with the non-surgical treatments included tenderness, swelling and bumps around the injection sites. Those side effects generally lasted no longer than two weeks after their procedures.
Satisfactory, Long-Term Results
These findings indicate patients can get satisfactory results from injectable treatments like Juvederm Voluma, particularly when their aesthetic goal is to restore facial volume lost by the natural consequences of aging. And while the large majority saw satisfactory results six month after treatment, a significant number continues to see positive results two years after treatment, with no touch-up procedures needed during that time.
