New Rules for the Navy
While the Navy has relaxed its rules on arm and leg tattoos this year, there are still restrictions on the content of the body art. The branch prohibits any type of tattoos that are “racist, sexist, extremist or indecent.” The Navy also restricts tattoos that “advocate discrimination based on sex, race, religion, ethnicity, or national origin.” The determination of which tats fall into these categories may be purely at the discretion of a commanding officer.
In addition, the Navy will now allow one tattoo on the neck or behind the ear, as long as the design is not larger than one inch in either height or width. The branch is still restricting tattoos on the head, face and scalp.

How It Works
Laser tattoo removal is provided in our office on an outpatient basis. The procedure does not require anesthesia, although some patients may request a topical numbing cream to ensure comfort during treatment. Treatment time will vary based on the size of the tattoo, but most treatments take 30 minutes or less to complete.
After your procedure, you can return to regular activities right away. The skin in the treatment area will be red and tender, similar to a sunburn. It is important to protect treated skin from direct sun exposure, since this can cause complications with the recovery and interfere with the results.
Getting Results
Patients will need a series of treatments to achieve full results, which are generally spaced six to eight weeks apart. In the majority of cases, PicoSure® will achieve full results within three to five treatment sessions, which is considerably fewer than with other types of laser tattoo removal. Of course, the total number of treatments will depend on the size of the tattoo, ink colors used and whether the ink was done professionally or by an amateur artist.
